About NRLA

A brief overview of our history and founding members.

board room

NRLA was founded in November 2014 in Tulsa by a small but committed group of individuals who saw the benefit of the USDA Business & Industry (B&I) guaranteed loan program to rural communities. This group, consisting of lenders, consultants, and service providers, also recognized the need to advocate for other USDA Loan Programs that are vital to rural America. These include Farm Service Agency (FSA) guaranteed loans, Community Facilities (CF) Guaranteed Loans, Water and Environmental Program (WEP) guaranteed loans, and Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) guaranteed loans.

Since its founding, NRLA membership has grown from the original 12 members to over 69 members, including 16 new members in 2022. NRLA has been instrumental in the ONE RD program changes, and in seeing the B&I program allocation grow from approximately $1 billion to $1.8 billion. None of this would have been possible without the enthusiastic support of the NRLA members.
